What is the Pakistan Rupee?
The Rupee is the official currency of the country of Pakistan. The State Bank of Pakistan controls the currency. The work 'rupee' means 'silver' in many Indo-Aryan languages. After the partition of British India in 1947 the Pakistani rupee was issued and put into circulation. Originally divided into 16 annas, 4 pice or 12 pie.

In 1947 Pakinstan Rupee banknotes of 1, 2, 5, 10 and 100 rupees were circulated. The banknotes come in different sizes and colors. Larger denominations being longer than smaller ones, all containing multiple colors with a dominant color. Security features such as watermarks have been added to all Pakistan money.
Pegged to the British Pound until 1982, the Pakistani Rupee was changed to manged float- devaluing it by almost 40% in the 80s. Depreiciated against the US dollar until the turn of the century with the value was pushed up against the US dollar. 2008 was a particularly bad year for Pakistan money when it lost 23% of its value with the global financial decline. However, since then they have recovered quite a bit.
