What is the Qatar Riyal Currency?
The riyal is the official currency of the State of Qatar. Divided into 100 dirham, it's abbreviation is QR. Qatar used the Indian rupee until 1966, when it was devalued, Qatar chose to introduce its own currency. Banknotes of 1,5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 riyal were introduced that year but replaced in 1973 by notes of the Qatar Monetary Agency in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 50, 100 and 500 riyal and the Qatar Central Bank (QCB) took over the issuance of the paper money.
