Algeria Dinar

The Algerian dinar (DZD) is a currency that has become very popular to purchase over the last decade. As a matter of fact, the Algerian dinar recently reached historically low prices in July, 2016, the conversion rate of USD to DZD reached a record of 110.86! Nearly 20 years ago, that conversion rate would have only been in the range of 47.70. Because of this, Algerian dinar is becoming more and more commonly traded in global currency exchange venues.

For most the existence of the current state of Algeria, they used their own version of the Franc. However, in 1964, Algeria adopted its very own dinar, and the denominations of currency were redistributed and changed to the modern Algerian dinar (which can be subdivided into 100 santeem). Since its creation, a single dinar is actually only available as a coin currency. However, paper currency existed in 5, 10, 50, and 100 dinar denominations. Eventually, denominations of 500 and 1000 dinar were also made.

Relations with the British Pound

In modern day Algeria, the dinar is not the only form of currency that is used. Due to the current status of the dinar, the British pound has been used for many transactions in the country. This gives the people of Algeria a particularly unique link with the British economy. However, it has not yet been seen how the effects of the British exit from the European Union (or Brexit) will affect this current relationship.
