India Rupee
The Indian rupee (INR) is officially the currency of India. The rupee breaks down into 100 paise. The Indian rupee shares similar origins to the Indonesian rupiah, as both share their origins in the Hindu word rupiya, which means wrought silver. The rupee is a highly devalued currency, which has helped India to remain competitive in a market economy around the globe. The initial devaluation occurred when most countries abandoned the gold standard.
